Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedure

What is a Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedure

There are a number of techniques for an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedure. Most involve removing excess skin and fat over the abdomen +/- tightening of the recti (six pack) muscles. In some patients it is also necessary to carry out liposuction in order to achieve the desired cosmetic result. Mr Jallali is a fully accredited Plastic Surgeon and can carry out the full range of abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedures. All involve a general anaesthetic and the operations last between 2- 3 hours. Following your assessment by Mr Jallali, you will be informed of the most appropriate technique and counseled about the potential outcome.

Who will benefit from Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedure

Most patients who request an abdominoplasty are post pregnancy where the skin has not recoiled and the recti muscles have split (divarication of the recti muscles). This creates an unaesthetic bulge which cannot be improved with exercise. The other group of patients that benefit are post weight loss. There is no upper age limit to have an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) as long as you are deemed fit for a general anaesthetic. A mini abdominoplasty is used in patients who are pre pregnancy and where the belly button does not need to be relocated.

What is the recovery time for Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedure

This largely depends on the technique used and can be as little as a few days. However, in most cases Mr Jallali recommends at least two weeks off work and six weeks avoiding heavy exercise or tasks. Mr Jallali’s patients are allowed to shower on the first postoperative day and all the stitches are all dissolvable. Mr Jallali does use a drain postoperatively and you will need to stay in a compression garment for six weeks after the surgery.

What is the cost of Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedure

This largely depends on the technique used and the individual. The package prices (which include all fees and follow ups) range from £ 7500-9000. You will be sent a quote following your consultation which will be valid for twelve months.

What are the complications associated with Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedure

Most patients are worried that the operation is painful but it in fact it is very well tolerated by the majority of patients. Complications are rare in Mr Jallali’s hand but include infection, bleeding, scar, change in sensation and seroma (fluid collection). Whilst patients are warned about these most do not develop any and the post operative recovery is generally uneventful.
