You will see the results from your botulinum toxin treatment around 72 hours after your procedure.
The main concern regarding Botulinum toxin is risk of bruising. Patients should therefore avoid any form of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication (Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Voltarol) for 10 days prior to their treatment. If you are on a blood thinning medication e,g. Warfarin, then you should contact us prior to having Botulinum toxin injected.
After the treatment, we recommend that you do not do any form of strenuous exercise for 24 hours. We also suggest that you do not bend down for the rest of the day following treatment. It is also advisable to use extra pillows at night in order to keep your head elevated the first night after your treatment.
Complications with Botulinum toxin in my hands are extremely rare. The most common complication is risk of bruising. This largely depends on the blood vessels around the area and bruising usually settles within 7-10 days. There is also a small risk of ptosis (drooping eyelid) with Botulinum toxin injections. This tends to occur with first treatments and often settles within a couple of weeks. Allergic reactions have also been reported but these are very rare.
