What is a mummy makeover?

A mummy makeover is a combination of procedures, typically including a tummy tuck, breast surgery, and liposuction, designed to restore your pre-pregnancy body by improving the appearance of the abdomen and breasts after pregnancy.

Pregnancy often causes breast drooping (ptosis) and volume loss, especially in the upper part of the breasts. The abdomen may develop a bulge due to the separation of abdominal muscles (divarication of the recti), along with excess skin and fat in the lower abdominal area.

For most patients, a mummy makeover involves a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), liposuction, and either a breast uplift (mastopexy) or breast augmentation with implants. In some cases, both a breast uplift and implants are needed to restore the shape and volume of the breasts.

What happens during a mummy makeover?

Your mummy makeover is fully customised to address your specific body concerns and post-pregnancy issues. I will thoroughly evaluate your body, listen to your concerns, and suggest the most suitable procedures for your needs. Mummy makeover options may include:

Breast Augmentation: Creates volume for fuller, younger-looking breasts.

All mummy makeover procedures are carried out under general anaesthetic. If you have liposuction you will also be given local anaesthetic in order to make you comfortable after your operation. Most patients require a 1-night stay, and you may be discharged home with a drain which is usually removed 3-5 days after surgery.

Who will benefit from a mummy makeover?

In general, I recommend completing your family before proceeding with a mummy makeover. Almost all patients benefit from a tummy tuck. The decision to perform a breast uplift or breast augmentation with implants will depend on the degree of breast sagging (ptosis).

What type of recovery can I expect after a mummy makeover?

I have a team of senior anaesthetists who manage your pain, allowing you to mobilise quickly.

Recovery after a mummy makeover usually takes around 14 days. I give you personalised advice regarding your aftercare and recovery, but as a general guide you can expect:

In most cases I recommend at least two weeks off work and six weeks avoiding heavy exercise or tasks.
You will need to wear a compression garment immediately after your surgery and this is usually worn for a minimum of 4 weeks post op.
All the stitches are dissolvable.
Regular clinic visits will be scheduled to monitor your progress, and you will remain under close observation for the first twelve months following surgery, after which you are expected to be discharged.

When will I be able to shower?

I have developed a sophisticated wound closure technique which means patients can shower on the first postoperative day

What is the cost of a mummy makeover?

The cost of your mummy makeover largely depends on the combination and complexity of the procedures being performed.

As a general rule, a tummy tuck and breast augmentation usually start from £14,000. Adding a mastopexy, breast uplift, will typically cost an additional £2,000.
