Advanced body sculpting and precision fat removal in London

What is liposuction?

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, lipectomy, liposculpture and ‘lipo’, is a procedure aimed at reshaping the body by removing stubborn fat deposits, enhancing your contours, and boosting your confidence.

Liposuction is most commonly performed on the abdomen, hips, and thighs, but it can also effectively target areas such as the chin, neck, upper arms, knees, calves, and ankles.

While liposuction effectively addresses challenging areas to restore balance with the rest of the body, it is important to note that it cannot replace weight loss efforts, which should be pursued through diet and exercise.

Several liposuction techniques have evolved over the years, including power-assisted liposuction (PAL), Smart Lipo, Vaser, and Vaser High-Def liposuction procedures.

Benefits of liposuction

Although liposuction is not intended for weight loss, it can effectively sculpt the body, creating a more toned and contoured appearance.

Benefits of liposuction include:

  • Enhancing the appearance of areas with excess fat
  • Removing fat from uncomfortable or unhealthy areas of the body
  • Reducing the risk of obesity and related chronic health conditions
  • Being a minimally invasive procedure that typically requires only local anaesthetic
  • Improving overall body contour and shape
  • Reducing the appearance of cellulite
  • Boosting self-esteem and confidence

What happens during liposuction?

Liposuction is performed under general anaesthetic in our London clinic and takes 1-3 hours depending on the extent of liposuction being carried out.

If only a very small volume of fat is to be removed, liposculpture under a local anaesthetic may be more ideal.

It is commonly performed as a day case, enabling you to go home on the same day provided you have someone to care for you for the initial 24 hours. If you are combining liposuction with another surgical procedure such as a tummy tuck, mummy makeover or neck lift, an overnight stay in a London hospital may be required.

I prefer power-assisted liposuction because it delivers more consistent results with fewer contour irregularities.

At the end of your liposuction procedure, I will apply dressings and fit you with a support (compression) garment. You will need to wear the compression garment continuously, except while showering or bathing, for six weeks following the procedure.

  9. Accredited facilities
  10. Trust

During your consultation, I will:

  • Assess whether liposuction or liposculpture is suitable for you
  • Explain different liposuction techniques and recommend the best procedure for you

The best candidates for liposuction are those with a normal BMI who struggle with stubborn fat deposits.

It is normal to experience soreness and tenderness after your liposuction procedure. I have a team of senior anaesthetists who manage your pain, allowing you to mobilise quickly and I use specialised techniques to minimise bruising, which can result in less pain and a quicker recovery.

To aid in your recovery, I recommend sleeping on your back with your head elevated. I encourage you to stay mobile, but you should avoid strenuous activities.

You may feel more fatigued than usual, so it is advisable to have someone assist you with daily tasks.

Most patients take a couple of days to recover before returning to work, though this period may be longer depending on the nature of your job.

You will have a follow-up appointment me two weeks after your liposuction.

I have developed a sophisticated wound closure technique which means patients can shower on the first postoperative day

After 6 weeks when you remove your compression garment you should be able to see a visible difference and improved shape. After 12 weeks most of the swelling will have subsided, giving you a good indication of your results. It can take up to 12 months for all residual swelling to settle and the skin to completely retract.

Complications are usually rare as I limit liposuction to 6 litres. At this level, major fluid shifts are unlikely, and most patients will be able to tolerate the surgery as a day case.

Complications include infection, bleeding, scarring and nerve damage. Whilst patients are warned about these, the majority of my patients do not experience any complications and the postoperative recovery is smooth. The skin in the areas treated may also remain numb for up to 9 months following liposuction or liposculpture. Contour abnormalities occasionally occur especially on sites where the skin is thin such as, the medial aspects of the legs.

The cost of liposuction largely depends on the number of areas being treated. The price ranges from £5,500-£10,000.

I offer a very transparent package quote, which sets out all of the fees, including your post surgery follow up appointments with me.
