What type of recovery can I expect after my fat transfer?

Recovery after fat transfer usually takes 7-10 days. I give you personalised advice regarding your aftercare and recovery, but as a general guide you can expect:

In most cases I recommend at least one week off work and two weeks avoiding heavy exercise or tasks.
Drains are rarely used and dressings are extremely light.
Regular clinic visits will be scheduled to monitor your progress, and you will remain under close observation for the first twelve months following surgery, after which you are expected to be discharged.

When will I be able to shower?

What are the complications associated with fat grafting to the face?

Complications with fat grafting are fortunately extremely rare. The complications include infection, bruising, contour abnormalities and numbness from liposuction. The biggest issue to consider is that the amount of fat that works (or takes) is variable and hence the outcome can be unpredictable. Ordinarily around 30-50% of the fat that is transferred melts away, and this depends on the area that is being fat grafted. Patients should be aware that they may require a second fat transfer procedure to achieve the volume that they desire.
