Rhinoplasty on Harley St, London

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic procedures in the UK and worldwide, particularly sought after in London.

What is a rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a “nose job,” is a surgical procedure aimed at altering the shape, size, or function of the nose. It can be performed for cosmetic reasons to improve the appearance of the nose or for functional reasons to address issues such as breathing difficulties caused by nasal deformities or injuries.

When performed by highly skilled plastic surgeons, rhinoplasty is tailored to address your unique needs and aspirations, ensuring customised results.

  • Change the shape of the tip of your nose, the bridge of your nose and your nostrils
  • Change the length or width of your nose
  • Alter the angle between your nose and upper lip

Benefits of a rhinoplasty

Whether you’re looking to make subtle changes or significant alterations, rhinoplasty offers a range of benefits to help you feel more comfortable and confident in your appearance, including:

  • Boosted self-confidence: By achieving a nose that aligns with your aesthetic goals
  • Nasal symmetry: Adjusting the size, shape, and alignment of your nose to create a more balanced facial appearance
  • Enhanced facial harmony: Modifying the nasal shape to better complement other facial features, enhancing overall facial aesthetics.
  • Improved or resolved breathing issues: Addressing structural problems such as a deviated septum to improve airflow and reduce breathing difficulties
  • Damage repair: Fixing nasal deformities resulting from injury, trauma, or previous surgeries
  • Long-lasting results: The changes made during a nose job are typically permanent, providing long-term satisfaction with the appearance and function of the nose.

What happens during a rhinoplasty procedure?

Surgical rhinoplasties are performed under a general anaesthetic and take 1-3 hours depending on the complexity of the procedure.

Most rhinoplasties are performed as day cases, enabling you to go home on the same day provided you have someone to care for you for the initial 24 hours. If you are having a septorhinoplasty an overnight stay in a London hospital may be required.

Rhinoplasty options

I offer several different types of rhinoplasties and during your consultation, I will advise you on the best technique to help you achieve your desired result. The types of rhinoplasty procedures available include:

  • Closed rhinoplasty: Ideal for subtle changes like straightening or removing the dorsal hump without extensive tip reconstruction. This approach offers more limited access but is suitable for minor alterations.
  • Open rhinoplasty: Offers more extensive access to nasal anatomy, making it suitable for significant changes in size and shape, as well as for revision surgeries or alterations to the nasal tip. The additional visibility allows for more precise modifications.
  • Septorhinoplasty: Combines rhinoplasty with septoplasty, addressing both cosmetic concerns and functional issues like breathing difficulties due to a deviated septum. This procedure improves both the appearance and function of the nose.
  • Alar base reduction: Also known as alarplasty or nostril reduction, this procedure focuses on reducing the size of the nostrils. It can be performed alone or in conjunction with other nose job techniques to achieve balanced results.
  • Non-surgical rhinoplasty: Provides an alternative for those who prefer to avoid surgery. Using dermal fillers, this procedure can address issues like nasal bumps, narrow bridges, and small nasal tips. Results are temporary but offer instant improvement with no downtime.

Making the decision to undergo plastic surgery is a significant step, and selecting the appropriate plastic surgeon is crucial for achieving your desired outcomes and ensuring a safe and fulfilling journey. Given the multitude of professionals available, it is vital to thoroughly assess potential surgeons.

Here are my top ten factors to consider when choosing a plastic surgeon:

  1. Plastic surgery qualifications
  2. GMC specialist register for plastic surgery
  3. Expertise and specialisation
  4. Patient reviews and testimonials
  5. Clear communication
  6. Patient rapport
  7. Results – photographs of previous work
  8. Aftercare support
  9. Accredited facilities
  10. Trust

During your consultation, I will:

  • Review your medical history
  • Discuss your aims and expectations
  • Conduct an examination and measurement of your nose
  • Assess whether a nose job procedure is suitable for you
  • Explain different nose job techniques and recommend the best procedure for you
  • Answer your questions, including those about aftercare and recovery
  • Show you before and after photos of my work
  • Explain the benefits of my pioneering wound closure technique
  • Provide a clinic letter detailing our discussion and the surgical plan.

Choosing to have a rhinoplasty is a very personal decision. If you are unhappy with the profile, width or length of your nose or nostrils or have functional problems, you are likely to benefit from a rhinoplasty procedure.

If you have breathing issues, you may also benefit from a septoplasty which is usually combined with a rhinoplasty and known as a septorhinoplasty.

It is important to appreciate that the aim of the nose job is to reform the shape of your nose rather than to create someone else’s nose.

I have a team of senior anaesthetists who manage your pain, allowing you to mobilise quickly.

Initial recovery after a rhinoplasty usually takes around 14 days. I give you personalised advice regarding your aftercare and recovery, but as a general guide you can expect:

  • In most cases I recommend two weeks off work and six weeks avoiding heavy exercise or tasks.
  • You may have swelling and also some bruising around your eye area, this will settle over the next 14 days.
  • Your nostrils may be blocked for up to 2 months following the surgery.
  • For a closed nose job most of the swelling has usually settled at 3 months. Open rhinoplasty takes a little longer and it can take up to 12 months for the swelling at the tip to settle down.
  • All the stitches are dissolvable.
  • Regular clinic visits will be scheduled to monitor your progress, and you will remain under close observation for the first twelve months following surgery, after which you are expected to be discharged.

I have developed a sophisticated wound closure technique which means patients can shower on the first postoperative day

Serious complications are fortunately rare with rhinoplasty. The major complications are usually associated with a septoplasty. Patients can experience swelling and an unwanted outcome and a revision rate of 10% is accepted as ‘normal’ in rhinoplasty. You may experience swelling and abnormal sensation for up to a year following surgery. Your breathing may not improve although in my experience this is extremely rare after a nose job.

The cost of a rhinoplasty largely depends on the technique and the individual patient.

I offer a very transparent package quote, which sets out all of the fees, including your post surgery follow up appointments with me.

The package prices start from:

  • £6,500 – closed rhinoplasty
  • £8,000 – open rhinoplasty
  • £8,500 – septorhinoplasty

A revision nose job is usually carried out via an open approach and will be more costly, as patients often require cartilage and/or fascial grafting.
